Interactive Media (MEJO 187)

Figma and Code

My first project in my MEJO 187 class addressed the design aspect of Interactive Media. To kick things off, we learned how to prototype websites and interactive features with Figma.

My prototype, titled “FOUR,” addressed four women of color in fashion who made history in the field with their achievements. Namely, these women are Winnie Harlow, Halima Aden, China Machado, and Joan Smalls.

Each segment features a short description of each woman’s career and features video, audio, and a timeline of their accomplishments. These interactive features are wired up to be functional as they would be on a fleshed-out website.

HTML and CSS

Following design, the second objective of our interactive media class was to learn how to code using HTML and CSS coding languages. Before I could even begin to think about putting the prototype I made into action, it was crucial to know HTML to learn how to get content onto the page, and CSS to stylize that content to be user-friendly and responsive.

For my second project in the class, I cover the topic of Key Moments in the LGBTQ+ Rights movement in a multi-page website, responsive to mobile and desktop displays.

Graphic Design (MEJO 182) Portfolio

A Semester of Design

In the Spring of 2023, I learned the basic principles of design in MEJO 182: Introduction to Graphic Design. The final project for that class prompted students to culminate all their work together into a portfolio that tells a story.

My class portfolio includes typography work, graphics made for print and social media, a game instruction board, and some of my personal work. The portfolio follows a theme of a “Night on the Town,” as it is titled, and showcases a silhouette visiting various locations on a rainy night.

Visual Discovery Conference 2024

A Collaborative Experience

In April, I was given the opportunity to visit the University of Miami to participate in the Visual Discovery Conference (VDC). The VDC brought together a wide array of students from various schools and grouped together to address a specific environmental issue impacting Florida.

The group I participated in tackled the issue of coral reef die-offs in Florida. To visualize this issue, we created a Figma prototype that branched off into two main scrolling pages covering the destruction and restoration of the reefs. My role in the team was to create a wireframe for the website and ensure the prototype was functional and properly wired.
