Marriage Equality Milestones

The fight for marriage equality has been a cornerstone of the LGBTQ+ rights movement. The Netherlands became the first country to legalize same-sex marriage in 2001, setting a precedent for others to follow. Over the years, numerous countries and states have recognized the right to marry, culminating in landmark rulings like the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges in 2015.

Marriage equality represents more than the right to wed; it’s a recognition of the validity and worth of LGBTQ+ relationships. It’s a victory that has provided countless couples with the legal acknowledgment and protections they deserve.
